2. 1Home and Google Home - Frequently asked questions

What are the smart home commands I can use with Google?

You can find a comprehensive list of commands for lights, blinds, switches and thermostats in our 1Home Cloud and 1Home Box help section

Here is a short list of commands available per device type:

Lights:

  • Hey Google, turn on dining room light.
  • Hey Google, turn off dining room light.
  • Hey Google, dim kitchen light.
  • Hey Google, brighten kitchen light.
  • Hey Google, increase dining room light by 10 percent.
  • Hey Google, decrease dining room light by 10 percent.
  • Hey Google, set living dining light to 50 percent.
  • Hey Google, turn on/off all of the lights

Availability of the dimming commands is dependant on whether the light supports dimming or not.

To find out if the light is on/off

  • Hey Google, is the living room light on/off?

You can also change the color of a light (RGB) or set a different shade of white:

  • Hey Google, set bedroom light to purple.
  • Hey Google, make dining room light warm white

The shade of white can be: warm white, incandescent, soft white, white, daylight

Other useful commands are the ones for turning all the lights in a room on/off and dimming them. Google Home users can set up the lights for this command by assigning (adding) them to a specific room. You can do that with the Google Home mobile app. In this case, the naming of these devices doesn’t matter, while the Room name of course does.

  • Hey Google, turn on/off Kitchen lights
  • Hey Google, set Kitchen lights to 50%

Availability of the dimming commands is dependant on whether the light supports dimming or not.

Switches:

  • Hey Google, turn on wellness floor heating.
  • Hey Google, turn off wellness floor heating.
  • Hey Google, is the wellness floor heating on/off?

Scenes:

  • Hey Google, turn romantic mode on/off.
  • Hey Google, activate/deactivate romantic mode.

Thermostats:

  • Hey Google, set the temperature to 22.
  • Hey Google, set the Kitchen thermostat to 22.
  • Hey Google, increase the temperature by 2 degrees.
  • Hey Google, increase wellness thermostat temperature by 2 degrees.
  • Hey Google, decrease wellness thermostat temperature by 3 degrees.
  • Hey Google, make it warmer/cooler.
  • Hey Google, raise/lower the temperature in the kitchen.
  • Hey Google, raise/lower the temperature of kitchen thermostat.
  • Hey Google, turn on the heating/cooling.*
  • Hey Google, set living room thermostat to heating/cooling/automatic.*

* Currently the different modes only work for the Loxone Miniserver. When changing the temperature with your voice, you also change the mode to manual. If you want to switch back to the automatic mode, please set the thermostat to heating/cooling mode as mentioned above.

To query the temperature of the thermostat

  • Hey Google, what is the kitchen temperature inside?
  • Hey Google, what is the kitchen thermostat set to?

Blinds:

  • Hey Google, turn on work room blinds on.
  • Hey Google, turn off work room blinds off.
  • Hey Google, set work room blinds to 50 percent.

You can also ask for the blinds status:

"Hey Google, are the kitchen blinds on/off?"

Some of the users mentioned, they would like to change the way the ON/OFF commands work for the blinds. Currently your blinds will open, when you say "Hey Google, turn off <blind>" and close when you say "Hey Google, turn on <blind>". You can click “Invert Open/Close commands” to change this behavior.

Availability of the positional commands is dependent on whether the blind supports positional settings.

To create an even simpler voice command, you can create a Google Assistant Shortcut Command. Shortcut commands help you create easier to remember voice commands.

  • Long press the home button to open the Google Assistant
  • Tap the small blue circle icon in the top right corner
  • Tap the three dots in the top right corner
  • Tap Settings > Shortcuts
  • Here you can see a few example shortcuts to use, or you can create your own by pressing the blue + button
  • Define what you want to say
  • And what should the Google Assistant do, when you say it
